Results and retakes

What arrives after the exam, what it does and does not tell you, and what happens if you do not pass.

You get pass or fail

No percentage, no score. The passing standard is set per exam form so every version demands the same ability, which is why there is no fixed “pass mark” to aim at.

What you can review

After each attempt you receive your areas of strength and areas for improvement in a graph, available by signing in through the Directory. It can be saved or printed and used to prepare for another attempt.

You cannot review the questions. Not the ones you got wrong, not the ones you got right. This is the single most important fact for planning your study: the exam gives you no feedback you can learn from afterwards, so the learning has to happen before it.

How many attempts

As a provisional registrant you have one year and three attempts to pass. Under the pre-February-2026 rules it was three attempts within 60 calendar days, with a minimum 14 calendar days between attempts, and a candidate who used all three without passing had to re-take their HCA program to earn another three.

Each attempt costs $200 plus GST.

Confirm your own attempt count and deadline with the CLHA — it depends on when you graduated and which register you are on.
